How is a Treadmill Test conducted?

As it is obvious from the name, you will be asked to walk on a treadmill for the test. Before that, you will be connected to an electrocardiogram machine with the help of small patches on the skin of your torso. Next up, the supervising doctor or nurse is likely to check your heart rate and blood pressure to know how your heart performs under normalcy to get a better understanding of the deviation.

The speed and incline of the treadmill will be slow and easy at first, but the difficulty will increase at a steady rate throughout the duration of the test. The staff of the lab will continuously monitor your ECG graph to track the spike in heart rate. It is quite normal to feel your pulse and breathing soaring as the speed and incline increases, but if you feel any discomfort other than that, such as shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness or lightheaded, immediately let the concerned medical personnel know who is with you in the lab.

Under normal circumstances, when the test is done, you will be made to gradually slowdown from the peak pace, from running to jogging to slowly walking to help cool the body and bring it come to normal stats. However, the lab staff will continue to track your ECG lines until it completely stabilises.
